Spending Freeze: Day 30 (Last Day!)

FINAL: $2,184.05 / -2.2 lbs

It’s here! It’s here!  I can’t wait to spend tons of money tomorrow!

Okay, not “tons” of money, but I am definitely ready to go normal grocery shopping.  I’ve wanted fresh produce so bad that it actually manifested in my backyard:

A lone tomato ripens on the final day…in my extremely neglected vegetable garden. It’s a miracle!

It being the final day and all, the hubs and I reviewed the April budget and set up the May budget tonight.  I’ve re-tallied the total savings up there based on how much actual money we saved (not in theory anymore like I’ve been doing).  That’s more than DOUBLE our goal!  No matter how much we complained to each other this month, we admitted today that it really wasn’t that hard.  And seeing that savings is totally worth the “struggle.” We were both so excited about the savings that we decided to keep the “Freeze” going…with a few upgrades:

1. Increase the grocery budget to $200/month and not limit what particular items we can buy with it

2. Each of us gets $100/month individually to use however we want…eating out, booze, amazon.com, golf, anything!

3. Put $50/month back into the restaurant budget to use together

I feel like this is reasonable to keep us on track to our bigger savings goals without us going insane.  The last thing we would want is a relapse, right!?

MONTHLY RECAP:

EAT

I was in such a hurry today that I had leftover popcorn for breakfast.  I miss having all of my green smoothies prepped like I used to.  So does the hubs.  Why I didn’t just make normal smoothies with all the fruit in the freezer?…I will never know.  The month went by so fast that I really didn’t get as creative as I wanted to or thought I would.  I probably have 100 recipes and meal ideas left on my “Spending Freeze” list that I didn’t get to, but could do with all the food that we still have left!  That’s another reason we felt we could keep going.  There is still so much food.  I have a huge jar of quinoa and didn’t make it once!

So maybe we didn’t make the most nutritious food choices, but that wasn’t the goal this month.  We focused on saving money and doing Body Revolution and that is exactly what we succeeded in.  Personally, I think if we weren’t doing Body Revolution, we would’ve gained weight for sure.  That’s the only reason that I’m not completely devastated that I only lost 2.2 pounds for the month.  I feel great and know I gained muscle, but with a strong focus on healthier eating next month, I have no doubt that I can succeed in weight loss too!

SAVE

A lot of the savings this month was brought on simply by our self restraint, but I need to give credit to our biggest helpers:

1. My couponing stockpile of freezer and pantry foods

2. Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover (and EveryDollar.com!)

3. Finding a $50 Visa Gift Card in my stash

4. My mom being a great listener (and reader!)…and contributing BDubs funds 😉

6. Jillian Michaels’ Body Revolution Program

7. The library

LOVE

Beyond the money, the best part about this month was working together with the hubs to accomplish our goals.  We’ve had so much fun hanging in, watching movies, budget talking, working out, cooking, eating, library-going, etc. and all together.  I feel like we spent more time together this month than usual with our crazy opposite schedules.  It’s been awesome!

Plus, we got a lot done for ourselves this month as well!  The hubs has been working on music and his website more than ever and I’ve gotten used to blogging and getting up early just to name a few.

I can’t wait to keep the momentum going and see what it brings.  It will be odd not to “check-in” and journal-blogging everyday, but I’ll figure out my place and system here eventually.  I hope you stick around for the adventure!

Thanks for all of your “listening” and support!  It’s been great!

Our realtor and very good friend invited us to join his team and clients for free ice cream and gelato get together this evening.  What good timing for us, huh?!  It was soooo good and such a treat!

And after that, who’s counting calories?  Might as well join your friends at Buffalo Wild Wings and use the end of a gift card (down to the penny!) and this awesome coupon, right??:

LOVE

It was so great hanging with friends tonight!  I’m glad we didn’t let the freeze get in the way and just figured out how to work with it and still have fun.

And maybe watch your Tampa Bay Lightning win at the same time!  What a great ending!  Wooooohoooo!

Spending Freeze: Day 28

DAY 28: $1,905.45 / -2.2 lbs

Wow!  Only two more days left!  I’ve practically been dreaming about my Friday grocery list.  I’m probably annoying people by talking about it, but I’m mainly longing for scallions, black olives, romaine, zucchini, cheese (any variety that melts well), and parchment paper.  Uhhh yeah…not to eat, of course…I just miss it’s convenience.  And I’m sure if we asked the hubs he would say, unfrozen meat…and non-center cut bacon.  Right, bud?

Unfortunately, I looked at my iphone photos tonight and realized I didn’t take any pictures for you today.  It was a pretty gloomy day and then it got hectic so I think my head just wasn’t in the right place.  I’ll try to be better tomorrow!

EAT

Breakfast:  Cinnamon Raisin Toast (I’ve kept the loaf in the freezer at work for days when I forget breakfast or a snack.  It really helps because I don’t let myself get so hungry that I want to make a super bad decision…like spend money).

Lunch:  Chicken & Rice Bowl like yesterday only I mixed in buffalo sauce and ranch…omg

Dinner:  Frozen Pizza with black olives!  It’s like my dreams for black olives came true!  Well, not really, but I almost can’t remember what else was on the pizza since I was so distracted by the olives.  It said supreme, but I removed the sausage and pepperoni to save calories…so I guess I wasn’t completely distracted.

SAVE

I knew the hubs was out of deli meat, that we didn’t have any meat thawed, and that he didn’t have any substantial leftovers to constitute a man meal.  So this morning, I got up earlier than usual to throw the rest of the freezer chicken breasts in the crockpot so they’d be ready for him to eat at lunch.  He sent me a snapchat of his chicken lunch with the addition of mashed potatoes he made.  I’m putting this under “SAVE” because normally I would assume he would just figure out lunch on his own and normally he might just run out and buy food for ten bucks or so.  I love our teamwork here and our proactive thinking to stay on plan…and that he made a pantry side dish. 🙂

LOVE

I ran on the treadmill tonight for my second workout of the day.  I was tired, but knew my body needed to burn some extra calories if I was going to eat that frozen pizza.  It energized me, distracted me, and empowered me realizing that I was becoming more self aware of my body’s needs.  Not that it needs frozen pizza…hence why I was running…lol.  Anyway, now my body severely needs sleep so…Good Night!

Spending Freeze: Day 27

DAY 27: $1,895.45 / -2.2 lbs

I feel like today is a pretty big deal day.  They say it takes 21 days for something to become a habit, and I have officially surpassed that amount of days of consistent early morning workouts!  I didn’t think it was possible.  I have maybe lasted 3 days in the past.  Something about the structure of the Spending Freeze and feeling accountable by posting on here everyday has really made the change easier.  I’m not even making excuses when my alarm goes off anymore.  This is HUGE!

EAT

Breakfast:  A new green smoothie.  With my reading last night (I finally finished Mockingjay!  I actually forgot I hadn’t ever finished it until I went to watch the DVD a little while ago.  Weird), I didn’t prep any green smoothies or any work snacks.  So this morning I grabbed my spinach ice cubes, frozen pineapple, Acai smoothie packs, goji berries, flax seed, chia seeds, and put some coconut water in 1 Magic Bullet cup and vanilla almond milk in another.  I threw them in my cooler bag and headed off to work.  I keep my old Magic Bullet at work just for this purpose.  They were perfect!

Green Smoothie for Breakfast & Acai Smoothie for PM Snack to go!

Lunch:  Chicken Rice Bowls (prepped a couple yesterday with leftovers)

Desk Lunch: Chicken & Leftovers Rice Bowl

Dinner:  Stuffed Cordon Bleu Chicken Breasts with Corn on the Cob & Potato Cheddar Pierogies, all from the deep freeze.  I don’t know why we’ve been putting off trying these stuffed chicken breasts that I couponed a while ago.   They were great!

SAVE

Another weekend gone by without going out and without a big grocery trip.  I’m going to put my Uber budget ($50) savings up in the total because the month is almost over and we succeeded in not using it on this month’s weekends.  Obviously, if we are not going to the bar we will not need Uber, but normally we would so…SAVINGS!

Also, the hubs remembered that he had some unused stuff to take back to Home Depot for the lawn mower repair, so we returned it tonight for $17.  I’m considering this a savings because I’d bet this stuff would normally just get stored in the garage without me knowing.  I love returning stuff for money, but the hubs some people would consider it a hassle.

LOVE

I’m pretty sure the best part of my day was when a coworker told me my pants were baggy.  Today it’s not about the number on the scale…it’s about MY PANTS BEING BAGGY!!  Wooohoo!
